Dive into a gigantic underwater world

You've crash-landed on an alien ocean planet, and the only way out is down. The oceans in Subnautica range from sun-drenched, shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches, lava fields, and bioluminescent underwater rivers. Keep an eye on your oxygen supply as you explore kelp forests, plateaus, reefs, and winding cave systems. The water teems with life: sometimes helpful, often harmful.

Salvage, build, survive

After crash-landing in your escape pod, you don't have much time to find water and food and craft the equipment you need for exploration. Gather resources from the surrounding ocean. Craft knives, lamps, diving gear, and watercraft. Venture deeper and farther to find rarer resources that you can use to craft more advanced items.

Construct underwater bases

Build bases on the ocean floor. Choose their appearance and components, and maintain hull integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store resources, park vehicles, and replenish oxygen supplies as you explore the vast ocean.

Uncover the secret

What happened on this planet? There are signs that something is very wrong. What caused your crash? What is infecting marine life? Who built the mysterious structures scattered across the ocean? Will you find a way to leave the planet alive?

Disrupt the food chain

The ocean teems with life: Use the ecosystem to your advantage. Lure threatening creatures with a fresh fish and distract them, or simply swim away as fast as you can to escape the grinding jaws of roaming predators.

Defy the pressure

Build a pressure-equalizing, waterproof KREBS exoskeleton and explore extreme depths and heat. Equip it with drills, torpedo launchers, thrusters, grappling hooks, and more.

Fear the night

When the sun sets, the predators emerge. The ocean is merciless to all who find themselves unprepared in the darkness. Areas that can be safely explored by day are treacherous at night, but they also reveal a beauty that those who hide from the darkness will never see.

Dive below the surface

Cave systems wind beneath the seabed, ranging from dark, claustrophobic tunnels to caverns illuminated by bioluminescent creatures. Explore the underwater world, but keep an eye on your oxygen supply and avoid the dangers lurking in the darkness.
